Experimenting with the new light
by Ken on Dec.18, 2009, under Photography
Hey folks,
I tried the light tubes and I am pretty happy with the results. I got them for a ridiculously low price (? 2,74 a piece) at Bauhaus. The ones I got don’t exactly boast with power (36W eq to 200W tungsten, 123cm length), so I just got 4 of them. So here’s the first experiment @ISO 400, f/3.5, 1/200s. You can see some noise (my old camera), so I’m considering to get another pair of light tubes in order to be able to go down to ISO 200. Obviously, the color is a bit off (that’s why many photographers stay away from that kind of light), but I didn’t care. The upcoming portrait series is in b/w only. The light is very smooth and bright which allowed me to stop down to a crisp and nice exposure time. See for yourself (click to zoom in on the 100% view of the eye).
