Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge

This is one of my favorite NY shots. I actually planned to walk over the Brooklyn Bride to get a nice sunrise shot of the skyline, but I guess things always turn out a little different to your expectations… I got up at the hotel at 5:30 and I walked through an empty New York – that alone was amazing. By the time I walked over the bridge I realized that the first light rays were slowly creeping over the Brooklyn side. I figured I’d be a little late for the skyline shot, anyways – so I stopped for this shot. I’ve always had a thing for symmetry, so this view just blew me away. It’s hard to describe what I felt when I was on the bridge, but I’m sure it was one of the greatest moments I had in the United States. Just me, the sunrise and my own New York City – simply mesmerizing.

Well, I had my tripod with me, so the shot was fairly easy. 18-55mm kit lens used at 18mm, with an aperture of 10 and a time of around 1/600 did the trick. Later I contemplated whether or not to stamp the lantern away, but I decided against it – I wanted this to be a genuine shot.
